State Law Anyone born after Sept. 1, 1971, who hunts in Texas, is required to take a hunter safety education course.
Study the free online course material to provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to learn to be a safe and responsible hunter in Texas.
After completing the course, you’ll take the Texas Certification Exam. (If you don’t pass on the first try, don’t worry. Keep taking the Certification Exam for free until you pass.)
Important You must be at least 9 years old to take the online course.
After passing and paying the $24.50 course fee, you’ll instantly print out a temporary certificate, which is your temporary certificate (valid for 90 days) while you wait for your permanent card to arrive.
If you are 17 years of age or older, there is an additional $5.00 charge for the Hunter Education Certificate, collected on behalf of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Your permanent Texas Hunter Education Certificate will arrive by mail in 3-4 weeks by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
If you are 9 to 16 years of age, after passing the unit quizzes, you’ll immediately print out your Field Day Voucher. After successful completion of the required Field Day, which includes safe firearm techniques and participation in a live-fire exercise, you will receive a “Temporary Student Card” issued by the instructor.
If you are 9 to 16 years of age: After passing the online course, you are required to attend the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Field Day to complete your hunter education certification.
